Editor, Journalist, Media coach
Claire Gillman is an experienced journalist, writer, editor and writing coach. She was formerly the editor of Kindred Spirit magazine for over ten years; she contributes to many leading women’s magazines and has written on health and parenting for the Guardian, The Times and other national newspapers. She has helped many aspiring writers to realise their dream of becoming a published author and is a mentor with Jericho Writers (formerly Writers Workshop). In total, she has written over 30 books including three titles for aspiring writers in the Hodder Teach Yourself series: How to Write Fantastic Non-Fiction, How to Make Money from Freelance Writing and How Not to Get Published, in which Claire examines the common pitfalls which authors make in their submissions and offers solutions based on her own experiences as a published author and a literary consultant.
Her latest book, Learning to Love the Spaces in Between was published on
10 November 2022 in the UK, and in January 2023 in the USA, Australia
and New Zealand.
I am the former editor of bi-monthly magazine, Kindred Spirit magazine, a guide to well-being, spiritual and compassionate living, which I left in 2021. In the past, I have edited consumer magazines specialising in health, parenting and travel - all of which are subjects close to my heart.
I am an editor for Jericho Writers, (an online club for writers who are serious about their craft, offering editorial advice and courses. Check it out here). I specialise in memoirs and non-fiction generally. It is hugely rewarding to be able to help new writers to get their ideas and writing into shape for possible publication. For that reason, I also love to run writing groups and mentoring; it is inspiring, fun and fulfilling at the same time.
I have been writing professionally for over 30 years and I love what I do. Writing can be fun and fulfilling, yet frustrating and challenging in equal measure, but it is always interesting. I have interviewed some amazing people and I have written about subjects that I have found fascinating and that I hope inspire a similar response in my readers.
Writing and coaching for a living has allowed me to lead the life I always wanted. I live on the edge of the West Pennine moors with my family and dog and combine the huge pleasure of writing with an outdoor lifestyle.
I have written over 30 books in total, with my first book,
Para: Inside the Parachute Regiment being published back in 1987. Since then I've covered topics ranging from parenting and fitness to natural health and how to write and get published. I've also penned a number of books for adolescents plus a series of survival guides under the pen-name of Rory Storm.
I have written for many of the women's consumer and lifestyle magazines as well as specialist magazines such as
Kindred Spirit and
Health and Fitness magazines.
